Clinton W. Ray, age 91, of Fossil, Oregon passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012. He was living at Haven House Retirement Home at the time of his death. Graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Fossil Cemetery with Reverend Carl Naas.
He was born December 1, 1920 at Franklin, Macon County, North Carolina, the son of John and Georgia Wishon Ray. He was raised and attended school at Franklin, NC.
Mr. Ray served with the 142nd Military Police Company in the United States Army during WWII.
On February 24, 1946 he married Bessie M. Smith at Decatur, Georgia. The couple moved to Fossil in 1955 where he worked for both the Oregon State Highway and State Forestry Departments. He enjoyed hunting, but his favorite hobby was fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bessie Smith Ray, two children, Ronald Ray and his wife Marlo of Clackamas, Oregon, Annette Ray Cadena and her husband Alfonso of Kirkland, Washington; two sisters, Gladys Welch and Gassie Gilbert of Lincolnton, North Carolina; two brothers, Willard Ray of Franklin, North Carolina and Hess Ray of Alton, Missouri, three grandchildren; Jennifer Kline and Heather Karam both of San Antonio, Texas and Terry Thygesen of Sandy, Oregon, eight great grandchildren; Brittnee, Cody, Madison, Tyler, Kyle, Nicholas, Nina and Natalie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son; Earl Eugene Ray and a brother; Burl Wayne Ray on July 22, 2012.
