WALLA WALLA — Former Milton-Freewater resident Marian Drahos, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, after her battle with cancer at the Washington Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. 

Mrs. Drahos was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Pierce County, N.D., to Herman Edward and Katherine Tyler, one of nine children. Upon graduation from high school she led a life of travel and adventure. She worked in Michigan, California, the South Pacific on a Norwegian Merchant Marine vessel and a gold mine and a cannery in Alaska, but occasionally returned home to their North Dakota farm to assist her parents. While in Alaska she met her future husband, Kenneth Drahos, who worked for the U.S. Forest Service. They were married in California and returned to Alaska. During their lifetime they raised five children.
