PENDLETON Verda Leavitt, 79, of Pendleton died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at her home at McKay Creek Estates in Pendleton. Viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 in the Burns Mortuary Chapel in Pendleton. Interment will follow at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. A celebration of her life will follow the services at 11:30 a.m. at the Pendleton Eagles Lodge.
Mrs. Leavitt was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Don and Ethel (French) McLeod. She was raised and educated in Dover and Sandpoint, Idaho. She later went to Burns to visit family, and met Charles Wayne Leavitt. They married in 1958. In 1959 and 1960 they welcomed sons to the family. By 1962 their small camp trailer had made its way to the Pendleton RV Park next to Safeway, and from then on, Pendleton was home.
In 1965 the Leavitts purchased their first home in Pendleton, and welcomed a daughter days later. She was very happy as a wife and mother, and that same year she began working as a child care provider in her home.
Mrs. Leavitt is survived by son David Leavitt of Pendleton; daughter Nancy Norris of Pendleton; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son Doyle Leavitt; brother Roy Leon McLeod; and her husband, Wayne Leavitt.
