RICHLAND, Wash. William Howard Bill Cooley, 65, of Irrigon died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15 at Burns Mortuary Chapel in Hermiston. Inurnment of cremains will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon. A luncheon will follow at the Stokes Landing Senior Center in Irrigon.
Mr. Cooley was born March 5, 1945, in Longview, Wash., to John Lloyd and Vera Irene (Arbogast) Cooley. He was raised in Irrigon and graduated from Riverside High School in Boardman. He served in the Navy and then returned to Irrigon to work for Tidewater Barges. In 1966 he married Janet Marie Christiansen in Winnemucca, Nev.
In 1974 he went to work for Umatilla Electric Cooperative and worked as their materials manager until his retirement in 2005. He served on the Irrigon City Council for 25 years, was a reserve policeman for the city of Irrigon and a member of the Irrigon Volunteer Fireman Department, and was named Irrigons volunteer of the year in 2008.
Mr. Cooley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Janet of Irrigon; daughters Michelle Danies of Boise, Idaho, and Vickee Carroll of Hermiston; brother Burrel Cooley of Irrigon; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Vera Cooley.
