Opal Gentry

RAINIER — Opal J. Gentry, 89, of Milton-Freewater died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at her daughter’s home in Rainier. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 28 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater. Concluding services and interment will follow in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Mrs. Gentry was born July 13, 1921, in Wallowa to James and Angela Seitz Roberts, the second-oldest of seven children. She attended Lone Pine Grade School and Wallowa High School. After her schooling was completed, she worked for a time for the grocery store in Wallowa.

She married Alvin C. Gentry in Walla Walla in 1940. The couple moved to Milton-Freewater to make their home. After her husbands death in 1958, she moved to Gresham, where she worked for Nabisco and later for Gresham Hospital for several years until her retirement. She then moved back to Milton-Freewater.

Mrs. Gentry is survived by her daughters Neta Halladay of Rainier and Delores Brown of Ridgefield; sister Mary Lewis of Milton-Freewater; brother David Roberts of Milton-Freewater; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; son Ralph Gentry; brothers Jesse, Elvin and Raymond Roberts; and sister Pearl Dilling.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
