Robert A. 'Bob' Leard

Robert “Bob” Leard, 77, of Pendleton passed away on Saturday. Born in Mathis, Texas, Bob moved to Lebanon, Oregon in June 1951, at the age of 14. He served in the Army until 1956.

Following honorable discharge Bob returned to Lebanon to work for the Linn Co. Telephone Company, a subsidiary of Pacific Power & Light Co., where he met his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley Leard. Bob retired from Pacific Power & Light Company after 42 years of service on January 1, 1999. He became a member of the Lions’ Club in 1971 and remained active in the club for many years.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley; daughters Valerie Smith and Juanita Leard; two grandchildren, Robert “Bobby” Smith and Nicole Smith; two brothers, John “Edward” Leard and Ray Leard, of Oregon; and one sister, Gladys Shreffler, of Oklahoma. He was predeceased by his father, mother, four brothers and one sister.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, 2014, at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton chapel with burial to follow at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.
