Esp understands importance of vocational education

I have been reading, with interest, the information in the East Oregonian regarding who would be the best candidate for Umatilla County Commissioner.

The candidates were asked, by moderator Tim Trainor (EO, April 19) to weigh in on the problems and issues important to Umatilla County. In my opinion, only one candidate got it right.

Jack Esp, a businessman, recognizes economic development, family wage jobs and prosperity of our citizens depends on an educated workforce ready and capable of doing the jobs for potential industry in our area.

Two of the candidates, one a four-decade educator, do not realize a vocationally trained workforce, skilled in construction, mechanics, plumbing, electrical, maintenance engineers, sheet metal and welding, etc., is the engine that drives industry and enriches family wage income. It is the calling card to attract industry to an area actively involved in vocational education.

Jack Esp, you get it!
