I have had recent conversations with local farmers, community leaders and law enforcement officials regarding Measure 105 in Oregon. The consensus is that we do not have a serious problem in rural Oregon that warrants such dangerous and extreme immigration enforcement in our local communities.

Measure 105 is a bill that is backed by Oregonians for Immigration Reform, which has roots in extreme right-wing circles from outside the state. Oregonians for Immigration Reform itself is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The intentions of Measure 105 have very little to do with actual policing or law enforcement of dangerous individuals and more to do with identity politics and xenophobic extremism. Measure 105 will only encourage racial profiling and distrust of law enforcement within Umatilla and Morrow counties. This does not make our community safer.

I encourage you all to vote NO on federal overreach into our local communities. Rural Oregon communities need common sense immigration laws that work for everyone. Measure 105 does not represent common sense rural Oregonian values. I urge you to vote NO on Measure 105.
