Recently I was asked to participate in a candidates' forum. The purpose of the forum was to find out how candidates running for the board at Blue Mountain Community College felt on various subjects.
The only respondents to the invitation to speak and answer questions were Elizabeth Hutchison, Virginia Rome and Teri Zipf. None of the male candidates chose to participate.
Elizabeth's name should be familiar to many as she worked for Barrett Business Systems for years. Elizabeth is someone who isn't afraid to speak her mind and will stand up for what she believes in. She will be someone who will not be a rubber stamp for the current policies and practices.
Virginia Rome works for the state of Oregon and she is Hispanic. Virginia is another one who has the backbone to stand up for what's right and not be a rubber stamp.
Teri also thinks like Virginia and Elizabeth. She is a leader, not a follower.
If BMCC is to survive, we must elect board members with the backbone to stick up for both students and faculty. Send a clear and a loud message to the "good ole boys" running BMCC that "times, they are a changin'."
Elect Elizabeth, Virginia and Teri. Send a message to the rest of the board and President John Turner.
