PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Charles Claus "Charlie" Kik died Saturday, Nov. 24th, 2007, in Prescott, Arizona. He was 86. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at the Hermiston Community Center at 4 p.m. A private family burial will be held earlier at the Hermiston Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 6 and 7, at Burns Mortuary in Hermiston. A memorial service was also held in Arizona. Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kik was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Spokane to parents William C. and Alice M. (Feldman) Kik. He was raised and attended school in Umatilla, graduating from Umatilla High School in 1939; he also attended Oregon State University. He lived in the Hermiston area until October 2004 when he moved to Dewey, Ariz.
Mr. Kik was an accomplished businessman and was a business partner for many years with Merle and Shirley Jewett. He married Eileen "Pat" LaDoucuer in 1953 and they had one son, Bill, in 1956. After the death of Pat, Charlie met and married Florence "Flo" Tumblin in 1981. He owned several businesses, including Pat & Charlie's Supper Club, Cant Kik Ranch Stables, Storment & Kik River Service, a boat shop, and Sanitary Disposal which he owned with Merle Jewett.
Charlie was a member of the Umatilla Yacht Club, the Hermiston Elks Lodge, served on the Umatilla County Planning Commission and on the Umatilla School Board. He enjoyed traveling, boating, buying and selling real estate and his many business ventures, and he loved to dance, known to many as the "Designated Dancer."
He is survived by his wife, Flo Kik of Dewey, Ariz.; son Bill Kik of Hermiston; stepchildren Doug Christopherson of Kent, Wash., Lori Knudson of Umatilla, and Russ Christopherson of Buckley, Wash.; five grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Pat.
