Deputy United States Marshal T.E. Mammersley is up from Portland in search of an Indian woman who is in contempt of court and who if caught will b placed in jail. She is Te-te-mi-at, mother of Frank Johnson, who is about to be placed on trial in the federal court in Portland on the charge of larceny. The mother is the complaining witness, but after she was subpoenaed to appear against her son, her mother love overcame her feeling of injury and she has gone into hiding, choosing to defy the government of the United States rather than appear against her erring son.

Annette Olofson, an exchange student from Norrkoping, Sweden, dressed as the Lucia bride this week and served Lussekatter rolls to her American family, the Kirt Skinners of Pendleton, on Lucia bride day. In Sweden, it?s a great honor to be chosen Lucia bride. On the morning of the traditional holiday, the bride wakes up the family and brings them the rolls baked the previous night. Traditionally, she wears a crown of lit candles and sings a traditional Swedish song.
