The bull that went into the china shop made for himself a world-wide

reputation, but it is doubtful if he created any more consternation

Whitman College has discontinued financial aid or guaranteed grants to

students who have cars on the campus. "If a student cannot pay his

bills in full he can't justly expect Whitman to give him enough

financial aid to permit him the luxury of a car," said Dr. Chester C.

Maxey, college president. Dr. Maxey said the new policy, which went

into effect at the beginning of the second semester, is an effort by

the college to reduce the school's cost per student for education.

The newly-published comprehensive plan for Rajneeshpuram, the central

Oregon city populated by disciples of Indian guru Bhagwan Shree

Rajneesh, reads like a map of Asia. The John Day River is called the

Radha, the big Muddy Reservoir is called Kabir Reservoir and Little

Muddy Creek is called Kamaal Creek. "Practically speaking, anybody can

call anything by any name they want to, but when it comes out in an

official document, that's when we begin getting questions," says Dan

Durow, head of the Wasco County Planning Department. Landmark names are

in the jurisdiction of the state geographic names board, and name

changes have to go through official channels.
