Athena - At a mass meeting of citizens held Wednesday evening, it was decided to perfect arrangements for holding a sort of harvest festival or street carnival in Athena early this fall. After a permanent organization was made, a sum amounting to $335 was subscribed to the association fund in about 10 minutes. A greater amount will be raised at an early date.

Plans for a $140,000 convent and a junior grade gym were announced here yesterday by Catholic Bishop Francis P. Leipzig, Baker.

The drive for funds with which to build a hospital will not be started until the convent and gym have been built, said the bishop.

The gymnasium, to be built in conjunction with St. Joseph academy, will be used for high school practice and grade school games. There will be no bleachers. The gym will contain a stage and will serve as a multipurpose hall in which plays and other activities can be held.

Muriel Danforth, a teacher for 35 years, is the Pendleton Chamber of Commerce's first Educator of the Year. A plaque designating the West Hills fifth-grade teacher as the recipient of the award was presented to Miss Danforth Friday during a chamber membership meeting.
