NEWPORT - Pilot Rock native Donald Lee Hoeft, 73, of Newport, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer.
A memorial service for Mr. Hoeft will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at the First Presbyterian Church, 227 N.E. 12th St., in Newport.
Mr. Hoeft was born June 5, 1931, at Pilot Rock.
He attended Oregon State University from 1949-1952 and graduated from Colorado State University in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy.
He served as a Captain in the Air Force ROTC for two years in 1956-1957.
On Jan. 24, 1959, he married Luella Wessilius at North Bend.
He was a small business owner and pharmacist. He had owned Lincoln Drug and Sav-Mor Drug in Newport and retired in 1987 as a licensed pharmacist in the states of Texas and Oregon. He received a realtor's license in 1988.
He attended First Presbyterian Church in Newport and was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and Agate Beach Men's Golf Club.
He was on the Board of Directors for National Security Bank.
Mr. Hoeft liked to hunt and fish. He loved spending time with family, camping, hunting, fishing, crabbing or just being together. He loved to golf and had traveled overseas and in the continental United States.
Survivors include his wife, Luella Hoeft of Newport; his mother, Alta Hoeft Evens of Hermiston; brother, Kenneth Hoeft of Hermiston, sister, Lola Hoeft of Hermiston; son, Steven L. Jansen and daugher-in-law, Kathleen Jansen of Seattle; daughter, Gwen Jansen of Eugene; daughter, Suzan Lee DeWalt and son-in-law, Rod DeWalt, of Lynden, Wash.; son Brad Jansen and daughter-in-law, Laura Jansen, of Creswell; son, Stuart E. Hoeft and daughter-in-law, Joy Hoeft, of McMinnville; son, Scott D. Hoeft and daughter-in-law, Renee Hoeft, of Newport; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jansen, Julianne Jansen, Coben Tistadt, McKinzie Miller, Collin DeWalt, Lindsay DeWalt, Jordan DeWalt, Steven DeWalt, Angela Jansen, Cory Jansen, Anna Jansen, Sarah Jansen, Danielle Hoeft, Eric Hoeft, Ryan Hoeft, and Robert Hoeft and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Robert Hoeft and son-in-law, Doug Tistadt.
