Sept. 29, 1906-Feb. 11, 2003

MILTON-FREEWATER - Longtime Milton-Freewater resident Frank S. Diggins, 96, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Walla Walla General Hospital.

A private burial service was held at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Mr. Diggins was born Sept. 29, 1906, on Basket Mountain near Milton-Freewater to Thomas and Maude Hurst Diggins. He attended Basket Mountain School and Couse Creek School.

He later worked on a ranch helping with wheat and cattle.

In 1935 he married Martha Obert at Walla Walla. The couple lived on Weston Mountain for three years before moving to Couse Creek. Mr. Diggins operated a sawmill for 27 years.

After selling their home in 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Diggins moved to their present location.

Mr. Diggins enjoyed working outdoors and visiting with friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, on Dec. 3, 2000.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Diggins of Clarkston, Wash.; a sister, Maude Harper of Milton-Freewater; a brother, Dave Diggins of Pendleton; and a granddaughter, Patricia Zumwalt in Canada. He was preceded in death by a son, Art Diggins, in 1990.

Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home of Milton-Freewater was in charge of arrangements.
