March 19, 1921 - May 14, 2004

NYSSA - Word has been received of the death of Freda Irene Astoreca, 83, of Nyssa, a retired LPN, on Friday, May 14, 2004, at Nyssa Gardens Assisted Living Facility.

The funeral was 10 a.m., today, May 17, at New Life Christian Church, 404 N. Third St. in Nyssa. Private family burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise.

Mrs. Astoreca was born March 19, 1921, at Emerson, Neb., to Walter and Goldie Nelson. She lived in Nebraska and Missouri before moving to Oregon in 1947.

On May 14, 1953, she married Gabriel Astoreca.

She was employed as a waitress before deciding to become a nurse. She attended Treasure Valley Community College where she earned her licensed practical nurse's degree. She worked for Dr. Sarazin in Nyssa, at Pioneer Nursing Home, Vale, and as an industrial nurse at Ore-Ida, Ontario until her retirement.

She enjoyed reading, playing bingo and being with her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Norma and Sam Houston of Hermiston, Bonnie and Don Beckstead of Boardman, Audrie and Doug Tracy of Nyssa and Carmen Robbins of Hermiston; her son and his wife, Ed and Rhonda Lowtrip of Eugene; 14 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elliott Nelson of Rancho Cordova, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband, by a brother, a sister and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nyssa Ambulance, XL Hospice, at Payette.

Nyssa's Lienkaemper Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
