Dec. 22, 1949-July 7, 2007

HERMISTON - Frederick Samuel Oswald, a longtime Hermiston resident, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at his cabin on Weston Mountain. He was 57.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Burns Mortuary in Hermiston. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hermiston. Disposition will be by cremation. A private burial of cremains will be held later on his mountain land.

Mr. Oswald was born Dec. 22, 1949, in Walla Walla, to Samuel and Ella Wilson Oswald. He married his first wife Carol Jean Raymond on Dec. 20, 1969.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1969 and served 20 years before retiring with numerous awards, ribbons and medals. For the past 17 years, he worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation.

On Nov. 28, 1998, Fred married his wife, Jodi Sherman. They shared the last nine years enjoying friends, black powder rifling, woodworking, building their mountain cabin and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife, Jodi; sisters Kathy Wilson and Elsie Williams of Elgin and Darleen Oswald of Milton-Freewater; daughter Loura Oswald of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother Ralph Hopkins of Milton-Freewater; sons Gary Oswald of Sante Fe, N.M., Sam Oswald of Beaverton and Fred Oswald of Tacoma, Wash.; and five granddaughters. His first grandson is expected in November.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Vicki Keen.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 669 or the charity of choice.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
