HERMISTON - A celebration of life gathering in honor of George William Sheppard will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Stanfield Moose Lodge. There will be a potluck mean following the service.

Mr. Sheppard, 76, of Hermiston, and late of Stanfield, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

He was born Sept. 2, 1928, at Lowell, Iowa, to Carl Lester and Mildred Barnice Thornberg Sheppard.

For many years, Mr. Sheppard was employed at a cook at the Chuckwagon, Jesse James and BoJacs restaurants.

He was a charter member of Stanfield Moose Lodge 920, a member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club.

George was honored as an outstanding citizen, for his contributions to Stanfield.

Survivors include his son, William Everett Sheppard, and his wife, Lisa, of Ford, Wash.; daughters, Rita Lushia, in Utah, Venita Sheppard of Boise, and Rebecca Alford of Hermiston; grandchildren, Kimberly Sheppard, Nichole Jones, Mary VanCourt, Karmen Sutter, Sara Sheppard, Amanda Alford, Jessica Sheppard, Cassy Sheppard, William Sheppard, Kayla Sheppard, Erica Sheppard, Codi-Renee Sheppard, and Jeremy Alford and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl Edward Sheppard of Weiser, Idaho, and Robert Sallards in Washington state; sisters, Viola Withrow of Emmett, Idaho, and Rosemary Beverly in Nevada; many nieces, nephews and kids he claimed as his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Down's Syndrome organzation in honor of his special child, Erica Sheppard, or to Stanfield Moose Lodge 920 Orphans Fund.
