PILOT ROCK - Recitation of the rosary for Jeanne Marie Gilbert will be 7 p.m. Sunday, April 10, at Bishop Funeral Chapel in Pendleton.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pendleton with vault interment at Olney Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilbert, 88, of Pilot Rock, died Saturday, April 2, 2005, at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton.

She was born May 15, 1916, at Pendleton, to Ceaser and Alice Van Riet Vlassenroot. She received her education in a country school then attended and graduated from high school in Pendleton. She later attended business college in Portland.

She lived on the original family farm her whole life.

On May 18, 1938, she married C.J. "Slim" Gilbert at Pendleton. He died January 9, 1990.

While her children were growing up she was active in their school and church activities. She also worked with them on their 4-H projects.

For 30 years, she was a member of the Soil and Water Conservation District.

She and her husband "Slim" were recipients of the Diamond Pioneer Agricultural Career Achievement Award presented by Oregon State University.

Mrs. Gilbert was a life time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pendleton.

She loved flowers, especially roses, and spent many hours working with flowers. She also enjoyed doing handiwork and made several pieces for family and friends.

Survivors include a son, George Gilbert of Lakeland, Fla., a daughter and son-in-law Marie E. "Betty" and James Cron of Federal Way, Wash.; grandchildren, Michelle Buchet,Joseph Gilbert, Cassandra Gilbert, Kevin Gilbert, Christopher Cron and Charlotte Cron and two great grandchildren.
