WALLA WALLA - Outdoor enthusiast John C. Collins, 55, died May 6, 2007, at his home. He was 55.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Pioneer United Methodist Church, 209 E. Birch St., in Walla Walla.

Mr. Collins was born Dec. 4, 1951, in Troy, Ohio, to George and Marie Collins. He graduated from Brebeuf Preparatory High School in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1970.

Mr. Collins married Susan Harriman on Dec. 23, 1972.

He received a degree in industrial engineering in 1975 from the General Motors Institute.

They lived in Richmond, Utah, Boise, Salt Lake City, and Portland before moving to Walla Walla in 2002. He was an avid reader, outdoor enthusiast and athlete.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife; sons John II Collins of San Diego and Brett Collins of Pensacola, Fla.; father George and stepmother Helen Collins of Nampa, Idaho; two brothers; a sister; and two stepbrothers.

He was preceded in death by his mother and daughter Rebecca Collins.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Medical Center Cancer Center, Walla Walla Community Hospice, or Pioneer United Methodist Church.

Herring Funeral Home in Walla Walla is in charge of arrangements.
