HERMISTON - John Robert Halladay Sr., 91, of Hermiston, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Quail Hollow Assisted Living in Richland.
At his request there will be no funeral. Private inurnment will be at Grandview Cemetery in La Grande.
Mr. Halladay was born Feb. 5, 1912, at Bimidji, Minn., to James and Ida Crowell Halladay. He graduated from the eighth grade and moved to Oregon when he was 12 years old. He worked in logging in his younger years then moved to La Grande and went to work for Union Pacific Railroad in 1943.
On July 29, 1953, he married Josie Luton at La Grande. They moved to Hermiston in 1955. Mr. Halladay worked as a brakeman on the railroad until his retirement in 1975. After retirement, he continued to work on his farm raising beef cattle until recently when failing health forced him to quit.
He enjoyed hunting, farming and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Josie Halladay of Hermiston; sons, John Jr., of Hermiston, and James of Meacham; stepson, Gene Osburn in New Mexico; brothers, Larry and Franklin, both of Kelso, Wash.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.
