Julie Marie Perkins


WALLA WALLA - Julie Marie Perkins, 70, of Walla Walla and formerly of Milton-Freewater, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Ms. Perkins was born Jan. 7, 1938, to Octaviano and Andrea Martinez Romero in Olathe, Colo. After being raised on her family's farm in Colorado, she moved to Milton-Freewater in the early 1960s. On June 27, 1964, she married Clifford Allen Perkins in Milton-Freewater and together the couple raised three children.

She worked at the Highway Rexall Drug Store, Valley Fashions and was a stay-at-home mom for many years. She was a loyal servant to Jehovah and attended the Walla Walla Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. On Sept. 24, 1987, Mr. Perkins died. Julie later married Bill McDermott. She loved gardening, flowers, yard sales, dancing and skiing.

Survivors include husband Bill McDermott of Canyon City, Colo.; sons Kevin Perkins and Curtis Perkins, both of Milton-Freewater; siblings Ida Archibeque and Toby Romero, both of Delta, Colo., Margaret Gunnels of Milton-Freewater, Lydia Larkins of Spokane, Virginia Madrill, Ernnie Even and Ellie Williams, all of Pueblo, Colo., Connie Hiatt and Esther Scott, both of Seattle, Jennie Ricord of Grand Junction, Colo., and Ben Romero of Florissent, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifford Perkins; son Craig Perkins; brother Jody Romero; and sister Mary Madrid.
