Feb. 11, 1931-June 12, 2004

Word has been received of the death of former Pilot Rock resident and heavy equipment mechanic, Leslie "Dale" Miller, 73, on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at Missoula, Mont.

A service will be held later.

Mr. Miller was born Feb. 11, 1931, at Wallowa, to William and Lucille Miller. He attended school at Pilot Rock and served in the Army stationed in Japan.

He worked in the logging industry as a heavy equipment mechanic for most of his career and eventually retired at Garrison, Mont.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed telling his grandchildren that he had climbed Mount Hood in Oregon when he was a Boy Scout. He had a natural talent and enjoyed playing the guitar and singing country songs. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and friends.

Survivors include sons, Ron Miller of Enumclaw, Wash., and Wendell Miller of Port Angeles, Wash.; stepson, Brad Hinton of Port Angeles; stepdaughter, Janice O'Connor of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; sisters, Helen Harrison and Marilyn Miller, both of Milton-Freewater, and Shirley Glenn of Seabring, Fla.; brother, Bill Miller of Boise; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
