WESTON - The funeral for Milton-Freewater native Martha H. Guffey will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. A concluding service and interment will follow at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Mrs. Guffey, 82, of Weston, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Evergreen Rehabilitation and Health Center in Milton-Freewater.

She was born Nov. 5, 1921, at Milton-Freewater, to John and Anna Semchenko Slusarenko. She attended Milton-Freewater schools then moved to Salem, and then to Santa Monica, Calif., to become a beautician.

She married Jack Guffey at Oakland, Calif., in 1945. The couple lived in that area until 1976 when they moved to San Jose, Calif. Mr. Guffey died on Dec. 29, 2000. Mrs. Guffey moved to Weston in June 2001.

Survivors include sisters Dorothy Walden of Brookings, Olga Harkov of Milton-Freewater, Julia Overstreet of Weston and Mary Worth of Walla Walla; a brother Pete Slusarenko of Santa Monica, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Guffey was preceded in death by her parents, by sisters Rose, Lillian and Esther, and by brothers Andrew and Jack.
