HERMISTON - A memorial service for Michael L "Mike" Caswell, a former security police officer at the Umatilla Army Depot, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston with inurnment to follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
Mr. Caswell, 62, of Hermiston, died on his birthday, Friday, July 22, 2004, at his home.
He was born July 22, 1942, at Portland, to Ronald and Esther Greene Caswell. He was raised at Summerville and attended schools at Imbler. After he graduated from high school he joined the Army.
After military service he moved to Austin, Texas, where he lived for several years before returning to the La Grande area.
On Sept. 20, 1971, he married Hazel "Mae" Masters, at Weiser, Idaho. They moved from La Grande to Hermiston in 1972.
Mr. Caswell worked construction for a time before going to work at the Umatilla Army Depot as a security police officer. He worked there until 1985 when failing health forced his retirement.
He was a member of Northeast Bowhunters, NFAA, and Oregon Bow Hunters.
He enjoyed archery hunting, duck hunting, fishing, camping, working on cars, golfing, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Caswell volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts where he was an adopted grandpa to many of the boys,
Survivors include his wife, Mae Caswell of Hermiston; son Nathaniel Caswell of Pendleton; daughters, Kathy Piper and husband, Brian, of Hermiston and Ellen Pollick and husband, Tim, of Hermiston; brothers, Ronald Caswell of Summerville and Tim Caswell of Enterprise; and nine grandchildren, Nathan, Krystal, Baylee, Tiffanie, Bryan, Brandon, Jessie, Stephanie, and Nikki. Mr. Caswell was preceded in death by his parents.
