OBITUARIES: Ada Madeline McMillin


UMATILLA - Ada Madeline McMillin, 93, of Umatilla died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Umatilla Community Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

Mrs. McMillin was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Floris, Iowa, to Allen Perry and Hildred Jones. She married James Frederick McMillin in 1936. They moved to Spokane, Wash., in 1942, where she worked as a bookkeeper at the aluminum plant during the last few years of World War II. In 1948 they moved to Umatilla, where they both lived the remainder of their lives.

In Umatilla she worked as a waitress, an owner and operator of the Umatilla refuse franchise and for many years as a retail clerk at Crossroads in Umatilla.

Mrs. McMillin is survived by her brother, John Jones; sister Mary Lee Pool; sons James Daniel and Patrick Allen McMillin; daughter Mary Jean Carlisle; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Frederick McMillin; brother Paul Jones; sister Mildred Michael; and grandson Robert Charles Helms.
