KENNEWICK, Wash. - Alma I. (Brooks) Perkins, 88, of Richland, Wash., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Hospice House in Kennewick, Wash. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Richland Lutheran Church in Richland, Wash. Her ashes, along with her husband's, will be buried this spring in Hermiston.
Mrs. Perkins was born May 23, 1921, in Loup City, Neb., to Harold and Mamie Brooks. The family moved from Nebraska to Richland, Wash., in 1936 and she graduated from Richland High School in 1938.
After graduation she married Ernie Perkins of Richland. After Ernie completed his Army assignment, they settled in Richland and had three children. The family moved to Hermiston in 1951, where they owned and operated Dres-Well Cleaners until their retirement. Upon retirement they moved to Summerville, where they continued their lifestyle of camping and fishing.
Survivors include daughters Carol Hexum of Richland, Wash., and Jo Ann Naff of Keizer; son Ron Perkins of La Grande; sister Marlene Harris; brothers Howard Brooks and Bill Brooks; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie, and parents Harold and Mamie Brooks.
