HERMISTON - Former Kennewick, Wash., and Heppner resident Carol M. Shipps, 79, of Hermiston died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Regency Hermiston Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6 at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery in Heppner.

Mrs. Shipps was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Hardman to Max and Grace Miller Buschke. She attended school in Hardman until the eighth grade, when her family moved to Heppner.

In 1948 she married Sammy Shipps at Stevenson, Wash. The couple lived in Heppner for several years while her husband worked for what is now known as Columbia Basin Electric Company. They moved to Washington State, and she remained there until moving to Hermiston in 2007. Most of their married years were spent in Kennewick, Wash.

Survivors include son Rick Shipps of Loveland, Colo.; daughter Linda Rigbee of Boring; brother Delmer Buschke and sister Joyce Ward, both of Heppner; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Sammy Shipps.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's charity of choice.
