OBITUARY: Clara Becker


RENO, Nev. - Edith Clara Becker, 96, of Reno, Nev., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, at Hearthstone of Northern Nevada in Reno, Nev. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Newberg. Private interment will be performed at Belle Passi Mausoleum in Woodburn.

Mrs. Becker was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Tigard. She married Casper "Cap" Becker in 1937, and was a homemaker.

The Beckers lived in the Willamette Valley until 1958, and later moved to Hermiston, where Cap operated the Hermiston Hop Farm from 1958-1969. They followed Cap's work in hops to Mabton, Wash., and Woodburn before retiring, and moved to Reno in 2003.

Mrs. Becker is survived by her only child, Shari Ford of Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cap Becker, in 2005.

Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn is in charge of arrangements.
