WALLA WALLA - Dorothy Cannon, 82, of Athena died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the Washington Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Athena Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cannon was born July 30, 1927, in Storm Lake, Iowa, to Ralph and Ona (Barnett) Holderied. She moved with her parents to the West Coast shortly thereafter, finally settling in Walla Walla, and subsequently in Athena. She attended Athena High School and, in 1946, married Robert M. Cannon, son of Joseph and Alice Cannon of Athena. The Cannons were lifelong resident farmers near Athena and, shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to the family farm where they lived for 60 of their 63 years of marriage.

She drove school bus for the Athena-Weston School District for 30 years, and was highly involved in her church and the community.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert M. Cannon of Athena; daughter Sharon Bergman of Pendleton; sons Robert L. Cannon of Athena-The Dalles and David D. Cannon of Athena; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
