PENDLETON - Gary F. Galenbeck, 84, a longtime resident of Pendleton, died Friday, June 19, 2009 in a Milton-Freewater care facility.
Mr. Galenbeck was born December 29, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Walter and Pearl (Kern) Galenbeck. He was raised and educated in Des Moines, and graduated from high school there in 1942. Shortly after high school he moved to Heppner for a short time before he came to Pendleton in 1947. He married Catherine V. Price on September 5, 1948 in Pendleton. He had worked for Parker Taxi in the 1940s and later as was a volunteer fireman, and had also worked for the Pendleton Police Department, Standard Oil and then for the City of Pendleton Public works where he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Pendleton Elks Lodge and the NRA. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Pendleton and a son, Gary C. Galenbeck of Salem, Oregon; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. At his request, no services will be held. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton in charge of arrangements.
