SPOKANE, Wash. - John Maurice "Maury" Kennedy, 90, of Spokane died Sunday, May 10, 2009. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 14, followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home in Spokane. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday, May 15 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 330 E. Boone, Spokane. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, 7200 N. Wall, Spokane.

Mr. Kennedy was born Dec. 29 1918, in Tacoma, Wash., to John Maurice Kennedy and Nellie Bly Cooney Kennedy; he was raised in Condon. He attended St. Joseph's Academy in Pendleton and graduated from Gonzaga Prep High School in 1937. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Margaret Nooy, in 1941. He served in the Army during World War II in the South Pacific, receiving the Purple Heart and distinguished Bronze Star while fighting on Okinawa.
