OBITUARY: Maxine Elizabeth Rietmann


NEWBERG - Maxine Elizabeth Rietmann, 72, of Newberg died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Providence Newberg Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19 at Ione Community Church, followed by a graveside memorial at Highview Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church.

Mrs. Rietmann was born Oct. 29, 1936, to Isaac James and Mikki Ross of Fruitland, Idaho, and was adopted by George and Neola Munford of Nampa, Idaho, at the age of two. She graduated from Nampa High School in 1954 and from the College of Idaho in 1958 with a major in elementary education and minors in music and journalism.

Following her education she taught elementary school in Boise, Idaho, and Morrow County. She met Gene Rietmann on her birthday in 1960, and the two were married in 1961 at Grace Episcopal Church in Nampa, Idaho. They resided in Ione, and she remained a housewife until 1974. She and Gene then co-owned and managed the family hardware store in Ione until 1985, when the family moved to Newberg.

She refreshed her teaching credentials in 1985 at George Fox University, and taught GED/ABE courses at Portland Community College's Newberg Center until her retirement in 2002.

Mrs. Rietmann is survived by her husband of 47 years, Omar Eugene ("Gene") Rietmann; sons Kevin Laurance Rietmann and Michael Paul Rietmann, both of Newberg, and Christopher Eugene Rietmann of Mount Holly Springs, Penn.; and one grandson.

A daughter, Elizabeth Jean, preceded her in death in 1962.
