OBITUARY: Stephen Ray Hart

PENDLETON - Stephen Ray Hart, 59, of Pendleton died peacefully Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, surrounded by loved ones following a valiant fight with liver cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at the Peace Lutheran Church, 210 N.W. Ninth St., Pendleton. Burial will follow at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton.

Friends may call for viewing from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at Burns Mortuary of Pendleton.

Mr. Hart was born Oct. 7, 1949, in Pendleton, the fourth child of Robert E. (Bob) Hart and Bette R. (Parfitt) Hart. He lived his entire life in Pendleton, graduating from Pendleton High School in 1968. He was married to Deborah Quesenberry for 18 years, and they had two children. He met the love of his life, Linda R. Robinson, in the late 1990s.

Following high school, he worked at the Pendleton Flour Mill until 1972. After attending the Shell Oil School, he owned and operated three service stations in Pendleton - Steve's Westgate Shell, Steve's Shell and Hart's Service Center on Court Street. In 1993 he went to work at Western States Equipment at the parts counter. Early in 2002, he started S&H Weed & Pest Control, a business in which he and his wife participated until his illness forced him to turn over the reins to his daughter and son-in-law, Mike and Trudy Schult.

Mr. Hart is survived by wife Linda at their home in Pendleton; father Bob Hart of Pendleton; brothers Mike and Bob Hart of Pendleton; sister Susie Rawe of Hermiston; children Trudy Rochelle Schult and Kenneth Eric of Valley, Neb., Lance Robinson of San Diego, Calif., and Lori Gardner of Phoenix, Ariz.; Linda's parents Evelyn and George Hoisington, her sister Diane Hamilton and brother Rick Hoisington, all of Pendleton; 11 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Hart.
