OBITUARY: Theodore 'Ted' Bert Kerns

WALLA WALLA - Theodore "Ted" Bert Kerns, 71, of Milton-Freewater died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Milton-Freewater. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Rose Lake Cemetery in Rose Lake, Idaho. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21 at the funeral home.

Mr. Kerns was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Kellogg, Idaho, to Lloyd Clarence and Iola Frances (Fike) Kerns. He served in the Navy, and after his honorable discharge he worked at various sawmills and dairies until starting with Pacific Northwest Bell in 1964. In 1962 he married Mary Louise Booth in Couer d'Alene, Idaho. He worked in Albany until he transferred to Milton-Freewater in 1976, where he worked until he retired from US West Phone Company in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kerns of Milton-Freewater; daughter Virginia Louise Lucero of Pendleton; son Raymond Lloyd Kerns of Deary, Idaho; brothers Alfred Kerns of Bonney Lake, Wash., Edward Kerns of Kingston, Idaho, and Roy Kerns; sister Katherine Mae Blackmon of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center in care of Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater, OR 97862.
