Carlos R. Melendez, 20, of Milton-Freewater was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII) and unlawful possession of marijuana after he crashed his vehicle on Highway 37 near milepost 5. Oregon State Police from the Hermiston office responded to the crash and said Melendez had allegedly failed to make a turn because of high speeds. Melendez's passenger, Daniel Salinas, 19, of Hermiston, was badly injured and flown to Kadlec Medical Center for treatment.
