3:00 a.m. - A man driving south on North Columbia Street, Milton-Freewater, lost traction on his trailer and struck a crosswalk sign in the median at the intersection of North Columbia and North First Street. No injuries were reported.
3:01 a.m. - Oregon State Police observed a black Acura Integra stopped alongside eastbound Interstate 84 near milepost 228, partially blocking the right-hand lane. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop and the vehicle’s driver would not yield at low speeds, then sped off at a high rate of speed; the officer terminated the chase due to road conditions. A check of the license plate revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from Richland, Wash. The officer later found the vehicle stuck in a snowbank at the exit 228 eastbound on-ramp, but the driver had fled on foot into the woods and a search turned up nothing.
7:10 a.m. - Oregon State Police responded to a rollover accident near milepost 202 on westbound I-84. The vehicle slid off the roadway due to icy conditions and rolled once, landing on its wheels. The passengers were transported to Wal-Mart in Pendleton; there was no indication of injuries.
8:02 a.m. - A resident of Southwest 27th Street, Pendleton, reported a window was broken out of their car but nothing appeared to be missing.
8:31 a.m. - Thieves broke out the window of a vehicle parked at Oxbow Trail, West Elm Extension and Northwest 11th Street, Hermiston, and stole a purse and cell phone.
12:46 p.m. - Pilot Rock police took a theft report from a caller at Southwest Birch Place.
1:27 p.m. - A man who thought his friends were playing a joke on him finally reported his gray 1998 Ford Taurus stolen from Eldorado Apartments, 245 N.W. 11th St., Hermiston. The caller said the vehicle has been gone since sometime in October.
1:28 p.m. - A Milton-Freewater man backing out of a driveway in the 800 block of College Street saw a Milton-Freewater police car approaching and tried to stop, but his car slid on the icy street and struck the right rear quarter panel of the officer’s vehicle. No one was injured.
3:00 p.m. - Union Pacific Railroad employees called the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office to report trespassers on railroad property southeast of Meacham. The caller said the two men with firearms were dragging a dead animal, but could give no further details except GPS coordinates.
3:05 p.m. - Pendleton police received a theft report from a resident of Southeast 20th Street. A package containing a laser for her pistol was stolen from the caller’s porch while she was out of town Nov. 25.
4:22 p.m. - A tow truck attempting to pick up a vehicle abandoned on I-84 near milepost 223.5 slid backward into the vehicle, damaging the passenger side rear door, according to OSP.
5:22 p.m. - Icy roads caused a minor fender-bender on Highway 395 South, milepost 6B, south of Pendleton.
6:22 p.m. - Umatilla police were called to the Riverside Sports Bar and Lounge, 1501 Sixth St., for a man who reported he was assaulted by a woman. The man was bleeding from the nose and hand, but claimed he didn’t touch the woman. He declined medical assistance.
8:25 p.m. - A passerby reported a fire hydrant lying in the middle of the street outside Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, 565 W. Hermiston Ave., Hermiston. The caller said no water was leaking from the hydrant’s base.
8:45 p.m. - A vehicle traveling westbound on I-84 near milepost 176 at a high rate of speed failed to notice a vehicle in front of it was traveling much slower due to mechanical issues. The following vehicle rear-ended the slower one, which ended up on the north shoulder of the road while the other came to rest in the median. No one was injured, according to OSP.
9:34 p.m. - Pendleton police investigated a report from a resident of Southeast Emigrant Avenue who said a neighbor is continually hooking up his water to her outside water supply and has also hooked up to her electricity in the past. She requested officer contact at her home.
10:50 p.m. - OSP reported a pickup overtaking an SUV on Interstate 84 westbound at milepost 234 slid on icy roads and hit the SUV, causing minor damage. The pickup driver over-corrected and hit the median barrier, and the SUV slid off the freeway, knocking down the exit 234 sign. There were no reported injuries.
11:07 p.m. - Pendleton police were called to oust a man sleeping in a tent on the back lawn of the Red Lion Inn, 304 S.E. Nye Ave., and refusing to leave.
