Troopers responded Saturday at about 5:10 p.m. to a crash on Highway 334 between Mansfield and Gerking Flat roads, about a mile west of Athena.

State police reported an eastbound Dodge R35 pickup went off the highway and drove along the shoulder until crashing into a power pole hard enough to bounce and hit the cab’s roof on the pole. The pickup then rolled onto its top and blocked the eastbound lanes and part of the westbound as well.

The pickup was a ranch vehicle, state police reported, and all the tools and tool boxes it hauled “were scattered all over the highway.”

State police received information the crash may have ejected someone, but no one was at the scene. Police contacted the vehicle’s owner, who identified the employee using the pickup. That employee in turn told troopers his girlfriend was the driver. State police cited Whitney McCall, 25, of Athena, for failing to report the crash and to drive within the lane.
