•A caller at 3:12 a.m. told Hermiston police that the driver of a compact two-door car rummaged through mail boxes at Southwest 11th Street and West Sunland Avenue.

•Hermiston police at 8:54 a.m. received a report of the theft of jewelry worth $40,000.

•A caller at 9:06 a.m. reported the theft of a welding torch and two gas tanks from a residence on Kiwi Court.

•A woman at about 11 a.m. rummaged through garbage and tried to dump her trash into other people's bins at Locust Mobile Village, 1571 N. Columbia Ave., Milton-Freewater.

•A man at 11:43 a.m. reported the previous night he had to leave his car at Highway 11 and Bannister Road, Athena, after Athena police Sgt. Erik Palmer stopped him. He said he returned and found someone went through the car and stole items.

•A caller at 3:31 p.m. told the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office there were people shooting on her neighbor's property on the 41400 block of Birch Creek Road, Pendleton. She said her neighbors were not firing the guns. A deputy told her to call again if she heard more shots.

•A caller at 8:11 p.m. told Hermiston police she made a deposit in the night drop at Community Bank, 50 E. Theater Lane, and a younger male who stood around and watched her walked over and asked her for a cigarette. She said she drove away and saw the male tried to get into the deposit box. Police were not able to find the male.

•A caller at 11:28 p.m. reported two males broke into the defunct hospital building at 1601 S.E. Court Ave. The caller said they went in at the emergency entrance and second-floor lights were on. She said the pair were in the building for at least 30 minutes. There was no indication police found anyone inside.


•Kevin Shawn Chamberlain, 24, no address provided, was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after a Pendleton woman at 3:49 p.m. reported he stole her car from the first block of Southeast Kirk Avenue. Pendleton police recovered the vehicle on the 1500 block of Southeast Byers Avenue.
