Feb. 7, 1946-Sept. 8, 2004

CONDON - Rea J. "Penny" Mikkalo, 58, of Beaverton, a former Gilliam County resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at her home.

A private family inurnment service was held Friday at the Condon Cemetery. Disposition was by cremation.

Mrs. Mikkalo was born Feb. 7, 1946 at The Dalles, to Vernon and June Anderson Mikkalo. She grew up on the family ranch at Mikkalo, a small community between Condon and Arlington. She attended Olex Grade School and Condon High School where she graduated in 1964. She then attended the University of Oregon in Eugene.

She married Ali Emami at Condon. The couple had a son, Vernon Emami, born in 1973. They lived in Iran for a couple of years and later divorced. She has been a resident of Beaverton for the past 28 years and had been employed as a dental claims processor.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed English history. She also enjoyed the opera and was a season ticket holder.

She had been a member of Toastmasters.

Survivors include her son, Vernon Emami, of Beaverton; her mother, June Mikkalo of Arlington; brother, Mark Mikkalo of Condon; sister, Karen Townsend, of Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Mikkalo.
