PENDLETON - Robert E. Denton, 85, of Pendleton, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at Pendleton.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Peace Lutheran Church, 210 N.W. Ninth, in Pendleton.

Mr. Denton was born Jan. 9, 1917, at Willsal, Mont., to Frederick Wilson and Roxanne Kelly Denton. He grew up at Wasco, and attended school in The Dalles, graduating from high school in 1936. He came to Pendleton in 1938.

He served in the U.S. Army with the 983rd Field Artillery unit during World War II.

On Feb. 11, 1949, he married Velva Rose Hanna at Pendleton.

Mr. Denton was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell for 42 years, retiring in 1978 as a construction supervisor.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, Pendleton Elks Lodge, National Riflemen, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Velva Denton, of Pendleton; son, James C. Bowen of Woodburn; daughter, Linda Dianne Denton Lieuallen; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, by two sisters and eight brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Umatilla County Historical Society, Peace Lutheran Church, or a charity of choice.
