ECHO - Robert Howard Martin, member of the 1984 Iowa State Champion football team, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, at his home. He was 40.

Disposition was by cremation. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Community Church in Hermiston. A memorial service will be held in Sioux City, Iowa, at a later date.

Mr. Martin was born Dec. 25, 1966, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Howard and Clara McClary Martin. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School where he participated in football, baseball, and wrestling. He was a member of the 1984 Iowa State Champion football team.

Mr. Martin moved to Hermiston in 1989 and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, first as brakeman and finally as yard master.

He married Renae Elliot on May 14, 1997, in Hood River. They lived in Echo.

Mr. Martin enjoyed music, camping, golfing, going to the coast and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife; parents; grandparents Robert McClary and Ruby Martin of Sioux City; sisters Regan Martin of Lincoln, Neb., and Becky Gray of Minden, Nev.; and brother Ross Martin of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Howard Martin Sr.; grandmother Francis McClary; and an uncle.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Humane Society.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
