PENDLETON - Robert R. "Bob" Hawes, 79, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at his home in Pendleton. Recitation of the rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Burns Mortuary in Pendleton. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pendleton.
Mr. Hawes was born May 17, 1928 in Meacham to Roy and Nora Hawes. He graduated with the Buckaroo class of 1945. He attended Oregon State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, graduating in 1949. He served in the Air Force and was a Korean War veteran.
He married Creagh Brennan in 1955, and they made their home in Pendleton. He worked for International Paper for over three decades, and retired in 1991.
Mr. Hawes was extremely active in the community and served on many boards throughout the years, including St. Mary's Outreach, St. Anthony Hospital Board of Trustees, Umatilla Historical Society Board of Directors, and the Happy Canyon Board.
He loved spending time with family and friends. He was passionate about golf, and was a true "Beaver Believer."
Mr. Hawes is survived by his wife Creagh of Pendleton; daughters Shannon Gron of Copenhagen, Denmark, Creagh Schoen of Sherwood, and Shelley of Corvallis; and four grandchildren.
