HERMISTON - The funeral for Sidney C. "Sid" Ferguson will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston with a private family burial at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mr. Ferguson, 79, of Hermiston, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002, at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Hermiston.

He was born Oct. 1, 1923, at Sheridan, Wyo., to Guy and Ruth Ferguson. He grew up at Clinton, S.D., where he lived until he joined the U.S. Army in 1942.

He served as a B-52 gunner in the South Pacific during World War II.

After the war, he moved to Boardman, and during the late 1940s and 1950s, he worked as a teamster in construction throughout the Northwest. In the 1960s, he gave up traveling with construction and moved to Hermiston where he worked at Marlette Homes for a few years. He then went to work for Let'r Buck Trucking where he was employed until his retirement in 1986.

Mr. Ferguson enjoyed many activities. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandsons. He loved going to the mountains on wood cutting and camping excursions. He also loved to visit his many friends and family members and never missed an opportunity to enjoy their company. In the mid-1990s, he began a "hobby job" at the Farm City Carwash. Almost daily you would find him there, washing out the bays, working on the machines, reading the newspaper and visiting with friends. It was said he was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Survivors include son, Terry Ferguson of Hermiston; daughter, Tamie Watkinds of Hermiston; sisters, Irene Higura and Ruthie Moe, both of Kennewick, and Harriet Bedford of Winston; grandchildren, Ryan Ferguson, Brenda Ferguson, Rydr Ferguson, Jeff Ferguson, Tyler Trump, Darren Trump, and Christian Trump, Stephanie Watkinds, Gabriel Watkinds, and Shae Watkinds; stepchildren, Scott Ramsey in California, Sandy Hawker in Utah, and Susan Heydon, in Washington; numerous stepgrandchildren and other relatives. he was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother, Stan Zunker, by his wife, Theda Ferguson, and by a daughter, Tracee Trump.

Burns Mortuary of Hermiston is in charge of arrangements.
