Baker joins Gauchos

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., - Riverside High School graduate Keith Baker has been named the throwers coach at UC Santa Barbara in an announcement made by head track and field coach Pete Dolan last Friday.

Baker is taking the position for the Gauchos with the departure of former coach John Dagata's move to Iowa State.

For the Boardman native, the new job comes after spending 2007 as the Alabama Crimson Tide's graduate assistant in throwing, jumps, pole vault and other administrative duties.

Prior to that, he was a track and field star for the Tide and was a national qualifier in the decathlon and holds the Alabama school record in the heptathalon. Baker graduated from Alabama in 2006 with a B.S. in human environmental studies.

"I am excited about the energy Keith will bring to the Gauchos," Dolan said in his announcement. "He has a great vision of track and field as a team sport. Keith is also bringing a work ethic which will be much needed to keep our program at the top of the Big West."
