THE DALLES - The Pendleton girls basketball team had just enough fuel left in its tank over the final 1:38 Wednesday as the Buckaroos held off The Dalles-Wahtonka 47-40.

The Buckaroos led the Intermountain Conference matchup 40-38 with 1:38 remaining before Carly Edwards converted one of two free throws, and teammate Marissa Hammond (19 points, six rebounds) scored on a layin.

Mackenzie Larson (17 points, five rebounds) then hit a pair of free throws to give Pendleton an insurmountable 45-38 advantage.

"The score didn't show it, but this was a tight game," Pendleton coach Todd Zimmermann said. "Our kids did a good job of finishing that game out."

The IMC-leading Bucks (10-0 IMC, 15-3) led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and 22-19 at the break.

Edwards finished with eight rebounds and six points, while Ashley Emerick and Talia Vogler had seven assists and five rebounds, respectively.

Sarah Clark led the Eagle-Indians (2-6, 6-8) with 16 points.

Pendleton was 16 of 40 from the field, while The Dalles shot 16 of 44.

Pendleton is at Redmond on Saturday.
