IONE - The Ione Cardinals football team has been honored by the OSAA and the Dairy Farmers of Oregon as the highest achieving academic football team in the state this fall.

The program boasts a 3.57 GPA, which is higher than any other football team in any other classification.

The OSAA and the Dairy Farmers of Oregon have teamed up for the past 12 years to recognize excellence in the classroom throughout Oregon with the Dairy Farmers of Oregon Academic All-State Awards.

Leading the pack are five girls cross country teams that each earned perfect 4.0 GPAs. The schools are Redmond, The Dalles Wahtonka, Gladstone, Scappoose and Westside Christian. Five other teams from around the state were honored in boys cross country (Marist), boys soccer (Riverdale), girls soccer (Riverdale), football (Ione) and volleyball (Crane).
