SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs sent the Tri-City Americans to their second-straight loss with a 5-1 beating in Western Hockey League action on Friday night in Spokane.

The teams matched shots in the first period, which ended 1-1 with the Chiefs holding a 13-12 shot advantage.

From then on out Spokane (44-17, 94 pts.) held Tri-City (40-23, 84 pts.) to just eight shots on goal while putting 25 on net themselves.

Tyler Schmidt scored Tri-City’s only goal 14 minutes into the first period to make it 1-0. Tyler Johnson scored twice for Spokane.

The Americans ended their four-game road trip 2-2 and return to Kennewick for four more games before finishing up the regular season at Seattle on March 20.

Both Tri-City and Spokane have locked up playoff spots.
