WOODBURN- A little cloud cover helped ease the oppressive heat, and as a result several players were able to post lower scores at the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship, the second "major" for junior golf, at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn Wednesday. At the conclusion the round, the field was cut to the top 32 Boys and top 9 Girls, plus ties, to vie for the title.

Taking a commanding 5-stroke lead in the Girls Division was Avery Sills, 16, of Portland, who shot 2-over par for the day for a two-day total of 77-74-151.

Sills has had a very successful season to date, winning the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge and qualifying for both Junior Worlds and the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur. Five strokes behind is 13-year old Ashlee Pickerell of Salem.

Pendleton's McKennon Cimmiyotti moved up three spots on the leaderboard from Tuseday with a 78, giving her a two-day total of 162, six strokes behind Pickerell.

The Boys Division leaderboard is topped by three Eugene area golfers.

Nic Polski, 17, and Jack Pennington, 16, both scored rounds of 4-under par with Polski taking a narrow 1-stroke lead into today's final round.

Also just 1-stroke behind is reigning State Junior Champion Philip Bagdade, who also posted the only other under-par round for the day.

Upon conclusion of today's final round, players will be named to the Girls Junior Americas Cup team. The team will compete later this month as the 30th Girls Junior Americas will be played at Waverley Country Club in Portland July 30-August 2.
