BEND - Pendleton junior McKennon Cimmiyotti is going back to the OSAA State Championships, thanks to a second-place finish overall in the Intermountain Conference Championships Tuesday at the Bend Country Club.
Cimmiyotti was the only Umatilla County golfer to qualify, shooting a two-day total of 156, just three strokes behind winner Tiffany Schoning of Summit. The Storm won the team championship with a 645, the only sub-700 score in the field. Bend was second with a 749.
"There were a few holes that were tricky for me," said Cimmiyotti, who was second in the conference a year ago to Bend's Natalie Weber. "Overall, there wasn't one that was terrible."
Pendleton (864) and Hermiston (882) were sixth and seventh in team standings. Hermiston's top golfer, Tasha Harrell, shot a 91 Tuesday, improving on her Monday score by seven strokes.
Sierra James (211), Meggan Bell (229) and Rachel Miltenberger (268) scored for Pendleton. Heather Ternes (212), Sarah Bartley (233) and Kari Barton (255) rounded out the scoring for Hermiston.
Said Cimmiyotti of her teammates: "I think they were a little more comfortable and did better."
Although she said the IMC is one of the toughest leagues in the state, Cimmiyotti added she doesn't think there's a favorite for team and individual state championships.
